Everything is delicately connected. While we are all related through myriad channels, it is our consumption that is the point here. Whether you are directly part of an extractive industry, a passionate advocate, an ardent opponent of it, or at some complicated place between these poles, we all share the experience of relying on that which is exhumed: black gold. But then again, we’ve always all been related by that which we consume; the same hydrogen and oxygen of water runs through us and the rivers, the carbon in the amino acids that make up the proteins of our food and then the proteins of our bodies is the same carbon that has been buried for 350 million years. The same carbon that we extract and burn, now. The energy of a molecule is the energy of a person, the energy of a place, the energy of a moment.
